10 reasons why Homeschooling mums should sign up to Twinkl! (Review)

As a former Primary School Teacher, I’m always on the look out for good well thought out teaching resources and packages. When I was teaching nearly 6 years ago now, I was familiar with and used Twinkl for many resources including labels, banners, worksheets, flashcards I needed around my classroom. As a homeschooling mum of 2, I absolutely love that I can use Twinkl as easily in our home school too. There are so many reasons why but, I’m sharing with you 10 of my top reasons why I think Homeschooling mums should sign up to Twinkl! (affiliate post)

sign up to twinkl

1. Planning, Assessment and Teaching Packs

For homeschooling mums who are still torn between which curriculum pack to buy to aid their homeschooling, I would highly recommend signing up to Twinkle. You are able to cater your child’s learning to their interests and not solely focus on the bought curriculum. Of course in order to do this, you would need to have some idea of what it is that your child should most likely be learning in their age group. This is where Twinkl’s planning and teaching packs come in handy. You can easily adapt the plans to what would suit your children and time frame. But what a fab way to get started with your homeschooling by having a range of planning and teaching packs to work with and get used to at the touch of button!

2. Current, Popular and Updated Resources

The Twinkl team are really working hard to produce resources related to current themes, be it the weather, Christmas, Eid or other festivals, they have it covered. In fact sometimes, I need ideas on what to cover in our home school and I am inspired by what I come across at Twinkl. You can find resources, worksheets, flashcards linked to so many topics/themes and Unit Studies just by using their search option. We have downloaded and printed resources linked to fairy tales, space, the beach, healthy living, life cycles, World Science Day and so much more! Many of the topics found under the Key Stage sections and very popular topics for that age group and usually covered in schools.

3. Story Power points and Original Stories

I really love this feature of Twinkl. Even as a former teacher, I do tend to plan last minute on occasions (mainly because I have a better idea than the last!) and am frantic about finding a related book. I love that on many occasions Twinkl stories found on powerpoints or pdf have become part of my sessions. My little one loves that she gets to turn the page by pressing space bar – win win!

4. Twinkl Create

For homeschoolers like me, who love to make their own resources, I love this option! I have created so many different things using the Twinkl Create option including a Ramadan banner, life cycle of a quail flashcards, booklet covers and even tea party invitations! There are plenty of colourful images to choose from (which saves a lot of time finding that perfect image on google only to wonder is it copy righted?!) and simple yet child friendly font that we usually find in our twinkl resources.

5. Editable Resource Options

It’s when I see these options by a company for teaching resources that I know they understand teachers and homeschoolers! We love to make it unique to our kids. So the editable resource option that I find on most Twinkl worksheets and resources is a life saver! Especially for me, homeschooling all the way in Saudi Arabia – I have some editing to do when it comes to landmarks and houses we find here! 🙂

6. Foreign Language Learning Resources

Yes you read this one right! I was surprised when I found resources in Arabic, and with the option of English and Arabic on posters, flashcards and more. This was perfect for us. We all know how useful it is for our children to know more than one language, so sometimes buying separate books and flashcards can strain our budget a little. Therefore how cool would it be to have flashcards or posters with both English and the second language your child is learning at home?! If you are a lover of cultures and languages like me, then this reason alone is enough to get your signed up to Twinkl! All you need to do is type “Arabic resources” in the search option.

7. Twinkl includes the UK and a variety of International curriculum!

For many of my readers across the globe! Great news! Twinkl provides your curriculum too – more details on that can be found here. The great thing about this is that it also gives us UK curriculum teachers/homeschoolers access to a variety of resources popular across the globe!

8. Faith Based Resources

For homeschoolers who take out the time to teach their faith to their little ones or even those that teach their children about other faiths. I’m so happy to tell you Twinkl has the resources you have been looking for! As a Muslim Homeschool, we try to teach our faith to our kids and were recently looking for resources related to stories linked to kindness and hospitality. I was so amazed that the particular story I was after was up on twinkl as a powerpoint – pictured below “Be my Guest.” I also managed to find flashcards for wudhu (ritual ablution) too.

9. Resource Packs

I love this category on Twinkl. In fact every time we begin a new theme or unit study in our homeschool, I instantly download the theme Resource pack and pick out everything I need for our learning. Sometimes, some of my ideas come as a result of ideas from the Resource packs. The resource packs are catergorised by key stages or in my case for EYFS. I also used a lot of the role play packs to set up my role play areas too!

10. Variety of resources for all subjects

From word searches, comprehension booklets, spelling lists, maths booklets, number lines, flash cards, banners, recipes, outdoor learning, forest school activities and ideas, STEM activities, instructions for Science Experiments to role play resource packs to original stories. There is so much on Twinkl which is why signing up makes it very much worth the fee. Whatever the topic, you will find a variety of resources related which will save you time scanning Pinterest too! Once you get used to Twinkl and what it offers you will consider it a must have for your home school. I have signed up for Twinkl for 2 years now and it’s been one of the best investments for me in our home school (alongside my printer and laminator!) I have been given 7 months free Twinkl subscription in exchange for Twinkl resource reviews every month, however all views, recommendations and opinions are my own.

So above were my 10 reasons why you should sign up to Twinkl and here’s more on the packages offered. Whilst there is a lot of free resources available on Twinkl. I recommend a paid bundle for access to a wealth of resources at your fingertips! There are 3 bundles to choose from, including the Core, Extra and Ultimate Bundle. I personally have access to the Extra bundle and highly recommend it. The extra bundle includes EYFS,  KS1 and KS2 material, Twinkl Create and now Twinkl Move. The Ultimate bundle is ideal for those of you who have teens to home-school as well. as it covers the KS3 curriculum as well. The monthly cost is broken down, however, payment is taken annually. The Extra bundle which is the one I use and recommend works out to £5.99 per month! It really is worth it if you are short on time for planning and preparing your resources for your home-school! The resources are of great quality, very child friendly, differentiated and used by teachers in school.

Wow! So many great features with this curriculum. I love the option to customize and edit your resources. The power point feature is something I haven’t seen much. Love the faith-based option too. Going to check Twinkl out!

With Palestine still on our minds and in our prayers, here’s something we’ve been working on with the kids last month - it took a few weeks to get through as we had some pauses in between. It led to a lot of discussion on the first Qibla, learning when the dome of the rock was built and so much more. It certainly was a labour of love and hard work which we look forward to sharing with our homeed community in our upcoming Project Showcase iA.

SAVE and SHARE to benefit and encourage others!

Oh how we pray for a liberated Palestine in sha Allah so we can all visit the 3rd Holiest Masjid in Islam and our first Qiblah! May Allah send his mercy and justice to Palestine 🇵🇸 Ameen

Our final session on our Al Quds - The Holy Land U Our final session on our Al Quds - The Holy Land Unit Study, we looked into the beautiful cities and towns of Palestine 🇵🇸 through this wonderful book We are Palestinian by @reem.kassis - go buy it and support Palestinian Authors!

We pray you are enjoying or have enjoyed the unit study as much as we did - remember this was just the start- you might find you want to research an area some more: read more on Recent Palestinian History or during the time of the Prophets or maybe even the time of Salahuddin Ayubi and the Crusaders.

Remember this is a history that’s trying to be erased or distorted so take it upon yourself to read and educate yourself so you can teach your own children too!

Where do you go next from here? What aspect of the history of Al Quds will you teach next? We’ve started reading Elizabeth Liard’s A Little Piece of Ground in our English study (more on that soon iA)

JzkAllah khayr to all those who supported and purchased this unit study - 100% profits will be donated to @humanappeal for Palestine 🇵🇸 May Allah accept it from us and May Allah bring peace and liberate Palestine once more! Ameen

Session 7 - the girls learnt all about Palestinian Session 7 - the girls learnt all about Palestinian Resistance. Despite the unfortunate history of Palestine, Allah has made them one of the bravest and resilient of people. We spoke about the symbols of resistance such as the watermelon 🍉- the girls thought it was clever of the Palestinians to hold the watermelon (as it has the same colours as their flag) when they weren’t allowed to wave their flag 🇵🇸

In this session the girls created posters and flags to support the Palestinians and of course because they too stand with Palestine 🇵🇸 🍉

The blatant ethnic cleansing and genocide of the Palestinians has to stop! These children like mine and yours deserve a happy, loving and safe childhood.
