Palestine is home to Masjid al Aqsa in Jerusalem, our first Qiblah (direction of prayer) and 3rd holiest Masjid in Islam. Yet it is also a place full of conflict and controversy that sadly may of us often discard as learning or teaching for another time. However, as educators it’s our duty to educate ourselves and our children on the ongoing attacks in Palestine. It’s also difficult to know where to start and how it all began.
The first place to begin with younger learners is to look at basic visual differences. That is why I created this simple Old and New Map of Palestine for my children. It can be used in your History, Geography and Islamic Studies lessons (we used it in our Prophet Eesa (as) Unit Study). This resource is aimed at children aged 6+.
We have work to do in learning more about Palestine and its importance for us as Muslims but more importantly how we can support the Palestinians and stand in solidarity with them. It starts with education.
